🎨Middle School Art Club Field Trip🎨 Thanks to generous funding from the Nebraska Arts Council, our middle school students had the opportunity to take a fully funded field trip to Hastings College. We departed from Superior High School and headed straight to the Hastings College campus, where we parked at Farrell Arena and admired the iconic Bronco statue before crossing the bridge to the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Jerome Dubas, Ceramics Instructor at Hastings College, who introduced us to the current ceramic exhibition. The students were highly impressed with the craftsmanship on display, even more so when they learned the prices of some of the pieces! After exploring the exhibition, we were given a tour of the Art Center. The students were amazed at the wide range of facilities available to college art students, and many were surprised to realize how much they’ve already accomplished themselves back at their own school. One of the highlights of the tour was visiting the glassblowing area and witnessing a live ceramic Raku firing demonstration, which was a truly memorable experience. Next, we enjoyed lunch at the campus cafeteria. This may have been the students' favorite part of the day; the variety of food options available was truly impressive! After lunch, we visited the Hastings Museum to watch a nature documentary and explore the current exhibits. The museum staff kindly offered to upgrade our movie screening to 3D at no extra cost, much to the excitement of the students. Overall, it was a fantastic day filled with art, learning, and inspiration. Our students left with a deeper understanding of the art world at the collegiate level and some new ideas for their own creative journeys.
